OUR MISSION
The mission of the Réseau de la Santé Sexuelle des Sourds du Québec is twofold:
- Inform and warn the deaf and hard of hearing community in Quebec against the risks of contracting HIV / AIDS and STBBIs (sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections);
- Provide services and activities to deaf and hard of hearing people with HIV / AIDS and STBBI, LGBTQ +, who are addicted and homeless.
- Respect for the deaf person in his culture, his own language and his development, such is the basic value which guides his action.
OUR GOALS
According to Article 7 of the RSSSQ By-Laws, following are the goals of the Réseau de la Santé Sexuelle des Sourds du Québec:
- Obtain and update all the information available on HIV / AIDS and STBBI, LGBTQ +, addictions and homelessness.
- Raise awareness among all people and / or associations of people living with deafness on the phenomenon of HIV / AIDS and STBBIs as well as on the means to prevent it and / or reduce its effects.
- Disseminate and adapt this information by any means of oral, visual, written and / or electronic communication to any person and / or association of people living with deafness.
- Assess the specific needs and / or concerns of anyone living with deafness affected by HIV / AIDS and its derivatives, LGBTQ +, addictions and homelessness.
- Offer and / or facilitate to any person living with deafness affected by HIV / AIDS and its derivatives, LGBTQ +, addictions and homelessness, the obtaining of medical, psychosocial, interpreter, material and / or moral support.
- Communication support service for people living with deafness affected by HIV / AIDS, LGBTQ +, addictions and homelessness to improve their participation in society.
- Be the spokesperson for any person and / or association of people living with deafness vis-à-vis any public, parapublic and private body with regard to the prevention of HIV / AIDS and STBBI, LGBTQ +, addictions and homelessness .
- Defend and represent the interests of anyone living with deafness affected by HIV / AIDS and STBBI, its foreplay and its derivatives, LGBTQ +, addictions and homelessness.
- Establish and operate one or more information networks to better serve the needs and interests of any person and / or association of people living with deafness.
- Receive gifts, legacies and other contributions of the same nature in money, securities or real estate, administer such gifts, legacies and contributions; organize fundraising campaigns with the aim of raising funds for charitable purposes.
- Provide adequate training to people and associations of people living with deafness in order to achieve its objectives.
- Represent the network to any provincial, national and / or international organization.
